Recently I preached a sermon about my favorite biblical character David, the stately King and skilled warrior. David, outside of Jesus Christ in my opinion, serves as our Faith’s most intriguing figure. I offer to you these points that come from I Samuel 17; of course it refers to David’s epic battle with Goliath. This battle has been used to describe every great BIG vs. small battle in sports. David, a shepherd boy, faces the skilled undefeated giant name Goliath. Undaunted, David used the power and strength of God to not only confront the giant but to defeat him as well.

Well, I noticed something; I noticed that David mixed courage with activity. He did not become intimidated just because of the odds of failure were stacked against him. In fact, he rose up and determined that failure was not an option because God was on his side. In verses 45-47, David boldly proclaims that the victory is his because of the God he serves. Wow! What a moment in history. David, unafraid, takes on the one who thought he could not be defeated and DAVID DEFEATS HIM!! That is God working through humanity and achieving his purpose for greater glory!

I want to encourage you to not allow anything or anyone to cause you to fear and become paralyzed into inactivity. In this season of your life, be willing to pursue fully and completely all that God has for you. Courage then becomes a necessary trait to achieve God’s plan and mixing it with activity is an unbeatable combination.

Your courage is really faith in action and your unrelenting belief that God is worthy to be trusted.

As David went into the valley so must you and face your Goliath. Goliath is only the test of your faith. So what is it that God is calling you to? What is it that God wants to trust you with? What is God staking his reputation on by putting it in your hand? Why is God willing to risk his name because of you? It’s awesome that God would trust you like this so go forth and refuse to be afraid. Let me offer some helpful hints to reaching this next level in your life:

1. Find your niche and trust it by executing it. This means you must discern God’s uniqueness in your life and invest your energy and effort in being it.

2. Risk possibility of public failure, humiliation, and criticism by pursuing what God has called you to. This requires courage and faith beyond words. So you must feed your faith with the Word of God daily so you can grow consistently!

Trust me on this one, if you go after God’s will and if you embrace your moment, whatever it is, you will be amazed that God always comes through. Wow! What a great day to trust God for more. Refuse to stay wherever you are right now. Choose the better part. Have a Swagtastic Life.

It’s no secret; many are feeling the effects of the economic crisis. Wide spread job losses have caused many foreclosure actions and consumer debt lawsuits. Fortunately, there are CPAs and Attorneys who specialize in protecting the home owner and the consumer’s rights. Hiring a larger CPA and/or law firm can have several disadvantages, namely a lack of personal attention. A smaller practice may be more suited to address your unique situation. George Spencer aka “Mr. CPA-LAW” established a one-stop shop to help you resolve all of your individual tax, accounting and legal needs; The Law Office of George A. Spencer, P.L. and Spencer & Company, P.A.

George was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL. After graduating high school, he earned a football scholarship to Bethune-Cookman University. When faced with the decision of what to major in, George wanted to pursue a degree in the business field that was challenging and would provide a level of satisfaction from helping people. After exploring all the different fields in business, he finally decided on accounting, “the language of business.”

After graduating from Bethune-Cookman University, George furthered his education at Florida State University, where he obtained a Masters degree in Accounting. He later obtained his CPA license and began his career with a large international CPA firm. “Ultimately, I wanted to establish my own CPA firm. Working for a large international firm allowed me to obtain the necessary experience.” In 2007, George did just that! Spencer& Company, P.A. was the start of his own CPA firm.

George’s clients include individuals, business owners and larger corporations. In providing his clients the best service possible, George observed that many of his clients were in need of quality lawyers. Being the dedicated business professional that he is, George challenged himself to obtain even more knowledge by attending Florida International University in Miami to pursue a law degree. George was later admitted to the Florida Bar and established his law firm. By combining his expertise as a CPA with his passion for the law, George has established a unique opportunity to carve out a niche that provides his clients services in both areas.

The Law Offices of George A. Spencer, P.L. was formed in 2010.

“Not only can I assist my clients with their tax and accounting concerns, but now I can assist them with their legal issues as well.”

George is passionate about educating his clients on the options available to them and how the law may work in their favor. For example, when an individual files for bankruptcy, by law, the creditor cannot continue actions to collect the debt and foreclosure proceedings are suspended. Under Chapter 13, a repayment plan can be worked out with the mortgage company to repay the past due mortgage payments over a maximum period of 5 years and the individual can keep their home with a new mortgage payment schedule the following month, thus providing a “fresh start.” All of this and many more issues can be discussed in the FREE consultation that he offers.

George Spencer believes in building businesses in order for his own business to grow. He is a community-focused entrepreneur. George serves as the Executive Board Treasurer of the Jacksonville Urban League and has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2009. He is also a member of the Young Professionals Network, where he serves on the finance committee.

George is a hard working businessman who cares about your growth and prosperity as much as he does his own. In counseling people who are interested in owning their own business, he shares with them this message: “It’s not enough to have a dream to start a business, but you also have to surround yourself with the right people to make sure you stay on track.”

For additional information or a free consultation don’t hesitate to call “Mr. CPA-LAW”

To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect. I’ve only been a member of the NtoU staff for a relatively short period of time and while I’ve indeed read Monica’s articles, I hadn’t actually met her face to face. We’d only spoken briefly over the phone during the week prior to scheduling our sit down. Now, this is where it started to get interesting. We were debating where we would meet. I have to say that because Monica writes articles for NtoU related to health and fitness, I was a bit puzzled by the chosen meeting place, which would later be known as “Five Guys Burgers.” While I reluctantly agreed, I also began to think: ’Now why would a person who’s interests seem to be deeply rooted in the overall health and well-being of humans, suggest a meeting at a hamburger joint?’ I thought, ‘this surely would create much debate amongst the most decorated of fitness experts,” and wouldn’t necessarily contribute to so-called good eating habits.’ However, at the time I felt that it was quite fascinating and something to key on later in our discussions.

During our initial phone conversation, I found Monica to have quite an intriguing personality. She came across as being very direct, yet humorous. It almost felt as if we had known each other for quite some time, more specifically, like family. She has a very genuine appeal about her, and gives it to you straight, “no chaser!” This is where I began to see our similarities. Once we actually met face to face and began to converse, the tone had already been set, and everything seemed to flow quite nicely from that point.

Monica was born in the Boston, MA, however she spent most of her childhood being raised in Detroit, MI. She’s the eldest of six children with four sisters and one brother. She was not reared in the church or taught to be a God-fearing follower of Christ. She became a Christian after obeying the gospel in her late twenties; at that time she lived in Louisiana following a four-year tour of duty in the United States Air Force, where she was a Law Enforcement Officer. She also served as a Police Officer with the Alexandria Police Department for 6 years. She moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1995 and in 1998 she started working for a non-profit health care insurance company, where she is still employed. She is also an active member of the Air Force Reserves.

She’s been an active member of the Church of Christ since 1991 and currently worships at their Sweetwater congregation located on the Westside of Jacksonville, FL. Monica is a woman of deep faith She readily proclaims: “I live my life walking in the favour of the Lord!” Her favorite Bible scripture is Matthew 6:33and her favorite story is that of Naomi and Ruth. She takes wisdom from the trials and tribulations of Paul, specifically when he had the thorn in his flesh and proclaims that her strength is “being weak in the Lord. While Monica has honed her knowledge in scripture, she’s also an accomplished scholar. She has an Associate’s Degree in General Studies from Florida Community College of Jacksonville (FCCJ). She’s also very close to the completion of a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from the University of North Florida.

Physical fitness is her passion. She has running track in the 4th grade and hasn’t looked back since. She also enjoys weight-training, roller skating, bicycling, riding her motorcycle and feels that just about anything can be turned into an exercise. She enjoys many sports and wants to learn to play golf. Tiger Woods had better “look out!” That passion and drive has also led to the design and copyright of Monica’s own fitness program called Pel-la-cize©. This innovative program combines Acappella gospel music with circuit training and exercise. Production of the DVDs is scheduled Memorial Day weekend 2010, with distribution projected by Thanksgiving of the same year. Monica also has her own website, www.onebodyforlife.net, which represents the notion that we only get one body in this lifetime and we need to ensure that it is taken care of as it represents the temple of Christ. As she suggests, “I earnestly believe that each of us will have to give an account of how we took care of the temple that houses our souls!” Her goal is to “empower people of God to be fit for the kingdom of God!”

Monica is single with no children but has 2 Yorkshire Terriers, Syre Duke and Ladie Duchess. She regularly volunteers as a member of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Foundation. She enjoys and tutors Math at her congregation as well. She also loves to travel, cook, and listen to acappella gospel music. She hates shopping but when she must, you can best believe she’s surfing the Internet looking for the best price. The girl takes NO price at face value! She has very little tolerance for ignorance, and cold weather (Thus the migration from the northern states to sunny Florida).

Monica first began writing for NtoU more than two years ago. She was approached by CEO and Chief Editor, Angell and asked to submit an article relating to health and fitness, to be published in the Health Matters section of the magazine. Monica jumped at the idea, as it presented an opportunity for her to join an upcoming publication and follow her passion as well. This has led to a positive experience, which has allowed her to articulate health and fitness to many people from a spiritual perspective.
