A 36-year native of Jacksonville, mother of three sons, and graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, Robin Williams received her early literary exposure as editor-in-chief of The Traveler, the high school’s newspaper, in 1993. Her love of writing was further established beyond high school as she began writing poetry, her spoken word credentials coming first in local church and community events, and later expanding to Jacksonville’s underground poetry scene at Boomtown, hosted by NokturnalEscape. Performing under the name Spiffy, a childhood name given to her by her parents, Robin began to grow and develop as a poet, partnering with close friends Black Jewel and Jonquil Brooks to form the poetry group “Lyrical Trinity”. As a group, Lyrical Trinity performed throughout Jacksonville, and appeared together at The World of Nations in 2004.
As an extension of her role as curator of The Gallery, an art gallery located in The Church Fellowship on Lem Turner Rd., Robin began distributing weekly inspirational emails to a small group of her friends in 2005. She would then paint a scene to immolate the inspirational message she’d written, and the picture would appear on the wall at The Gallery. That weekly inspirational email became known as Monday Morning Espresso – a term used to denote her well known love for (and addiction to) Starbucks coffee. The Espresso began to spread, and Robin received numerous requests to be added to the email distribution. Within months, the Monday Morning Espresso was being read by over 500 people, many of whom Robin had never met personally. It also caught the eye of NtoU Magazine editor, Angell Davis.
After receiving a master’s degree in Management and continuing to write the Espresso Soul article for NtoU Magazine, Robin took a break from art and poetry to focus on her new position as Director of Marketing and Radio Promotions for Parriscope Entertainment, Inc., an independent record label founded in 2006 in Orlando by long-time friend, producer & composer Elisha Parris. After the PEInc (pronounced pink) label and recording studio relocated to Jacksonville in 2008, Robin became a partner and gained the titles of Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President. Further extending her role as a record label executive, Robin began operating InScope Management Group, the label’s artist management company. InScope now manages several artists across the state both on and off the PEInc label, including Soul Songstress Celestial, Funk Bassist Brent Brown, R&B singer Chris Williams, and Urban Jazz Pianist Elisha “Atlas” Parris.
As Parriscope has and continues to establish itself as a staple in the music industry, Robin continues to foster her love of both music and writing. Rejoining the poetry scene in 2010 and taking on the name of LyricalTrinitee, Robin once again began performing in venues across Jacksonville, including Neo-Soul Saturdays, Expressive Thought Mondays, Artis(Tree), and Parriscope’s own 1st Sunday poetry venue. Using her first hand experience and knowledge of artistic expression, Robin will author the entertainment column of the new NtoU Online edition. Her column, PEInc Expressions: Soul Entertainment, will focus on local and national film, music, events and entertainment, and will feature the “who’s who” of the rising artist community, as well as the Espresso Soul article that NtoU readers have come to enjoy!
