Discouraged

Dear Demetrus,

I am getting a little discouraged with people in the church and my life outside of the church. The girl in the choir always has something negative to say when I walk by, the Elder keeps flirting with me when his wife is away, and I am saved but trouble just keep coming my way! Shouldn’t things get better once you get saved? I thought that the moment I gave my life to Christ that the problems I have inside the church would go away and the problems I have outside the church would improve, but it seems as though it’s become worst! Please let me know why this is happening and what I have to do to get things back to normal.

“Discouraged and Saved”

Thank you for your question.

First off, let me say that going to church doesn’t make you a Christian no more than going to a Chinese restaurant will make you Chinese. You’re going to have people in church that’s full of love and people in church full of the devil. Real Talk! So just do you boo and don’t listen to the haters.

Second, if the Elder keeps trying to holla at you then let your Pastor know. If that doesn’t make him stop, then tell his wife and you might want to consider finding a new house of worship.

Last, whoever told you that your problems would go away after you give Jesus your life was lying!!! Boo, Jesus caught hell, so what makes us think that we won’t have trials and struggles? I’m tired of Preachers telling people that signs of trouble are indications that you’re doing something wrong; maybe you’re doing something right!! Job didn’t do anything wrong and he lost everything he owned and his entire family. God allowed him to go through because God knew He could trust Job. My question to you boo is: can He (God) trust you? After all was said and done, Job was elevated with more land, authority, and children. So the greater the trouble could mean the greater the blessing!! And that’s Real Talk….

We know NtoU’s own Demetrus’ story all too well; a talented Christian singer/rapper that was once a self-proclaimed thug locked up for attempted murder and acquitted, but not before he found Jesus Christ. As the father of two teenage sons, Demetrus struggled to create a different path for his boys than he had traveled. Watching his younger son get locked up and also going through a divorce, Demetrus reflected on his own life and prayed for God’s mercy and glory. Click NT logo below to read more.
