Kingdom Contractions

Contractions

All around us we observe a pregnant creation. The difficult times of pain throughout the world are simply birth pangs. But it’s not only around us; it’s within us. The Spirit of God is arousing us within. We’re also feeling the birth pangs.

By the time you read this article, my wife and I will have welcomed our first child, my princess Micaiah Loewen, into our lives. What a welcome she will be. The last month has been a challenge, as any woman who has had children knows. She grows everyday in the womb, getting stronger and more anxious to take on this brave new world. Contractions are becoming more frequent, and there is a greater sense of urgency to be ready on our end for that unknown day when a new destiny breaks forth upon us. I personally feel a greater responsibility, not only for the time to come, but for the time now, as it becomes more difficult for my wife to get around as her time draws near.

Romans chapter eight uses pregnancy as a metaphor for the manifestation of the true sons of God, so much so that Paul alludes to us growing larger both inwardly and outwardly and still not being ready to deliver. Then there is a reference to the birth pains,

We’re also feeling the birth pangs. These sterile and barren bodies of ours are yearning for full deliverance.”

However, there is a waiting period, a natural amount of time that must take place to experience that supernatural moment.

I believe we can see and feel the contractions of creation; hurricanes, tsunamis, and most recently, two major earthquakes. I am not someone who understands God well enough to say that this is His way of passing judgment on different parts of the earth, but I do know that the earth is waiting to be delivered to her rightful parents: the heirs of the Kingdom. Paul also writes that it is God who is holding us back, and there is still some development that must happen, “But the longer we wait, the larger we become, and the more joyful our expectancy.”  This is the hard part for me to understand, because I do not like to wait, but the Bible says that His Spirit is with us through the aching groans and wordless sighs; our lives have been mapped out from the beginning.

Do not let the pains of life discourage you. Find joy in knowing that God knows when we are due to be delivered. We named our daughter Micaiah which means “Who is like Jehovah,” because we did not understand but we did appreciate His timing. Yes, the whole earth is waiting for your manifestation, but there is a birthing process, and it is called being Kingdom Minded!! I love you Micaiah, and I thank Jehovah for you.
